8-Hour Beginner Kitesurfing Course

8-Hour Beginner Kitesurfing Course

This 8-hour beginner kitesurfing course is designed to help you start riding safely and confidently. It follows IKO teaching standards and aims to complete Level 2 certification.

Kite control lesson on the beach. First, you will spend about 1 hour learning to fly a small trainer kite. This introduces kite control, theory and safety without the power of a larger kite. Next, you will fly a small 4-line inflatable kite. You will learn to set it up, understand its safety systems and fly it with control. This stage is complete when you can demonstrate kite control, use the depower and safety systems, and fly with 1 hand.

Body dragging lesson in the water. Next, you will take a larger kite with longer lines into the water, without a board. Learn to enter and leave the water while controlling the kite, then use its power to body drag. Your instructor will be alongside you to guide you and help with safety. You will learn to relaunch the kite if it lands in the water. The final stage covers 1-handed upwind body dragging and navigating independently in the water.

Water start lesson in the water. It is time to try the board. Put your kite control skills into practice as you enter the water, fly with 1 hand, position the board and attempt your first rides. If you fall, you will use body dragging to return to the board and start again. Your instructor will guide your first attempts, with the aim of helping you ride safely and independently. Once you complete this stage, you will receive IKO Level 2 certification and be ready for an upwind lesson or supervised rental. This is the usual progression, although some learners need more time to start riding.

Private lessons: One-to-one instruction gives you your instructor’s full attention and personalised learning at your own pace. This focused approach helps you start riding as quickly as possible. You can also choose a slower pace with shorter lessons lasting 1 or 2 hours. If you are booking alone, choose private lessons: a group place cannot be guaranteed, as schedules, levels and languages need to match.

Private lessons include: Private instruction, equipment for your use and IKO certification (min/max 1 person).

Semi-private lessons: A good option for couples or two friends who want to learn together. These lessons give you plenty of time flying the kite, with a complete set of shared equipment included. Your IKO instructor teaches both students, with an assistant on hand to help with safety. Both students need the same schedule, level and language.

Semi-private lessons include: An instructor, an assistant, equipment and IKO certification. (2 students / class)
